On behalf of Van Zandt County I’m submitting the follow comments “Great Job, Bryan”. I visited with our District Judge, County Judge , Indigent Defense Coordinator and other officials within our county. We brainstormed and earnestly discussed other means to divide up the funds but could not arrive at a suitable alternative that treats all counties fairly. The Task Force monitors base year expenditures compared to current year indigent defense expenditures. Counties Indigent defense expenditures exceed their base year and do not supplant local funds by task force formula grants can keep the grant while counties that do not exceed may be required to return the funds to the Task Force. This is I think that would how it works. We could not improve on your method, but did give due consideration. Thank you.
